If you’ve ever searched for African history and found only fragments, stereotypes, or stories told by outsiders, you’re in the right place. VendTop Media was built for one reason: to return the pen to us.
We are a digital home for the facts, the culture, the art, and the voices of Africa — starting with Nigeria and her many tribes, and expanding across the continent.
This isn’t just another news site. This is a record. A library. A conversation around the fire.
Why VendTop Media Exists
History is powerful because it tells us who we are. But for a long time, the story of Africa has been told in pieces. Colonial archives, foreign textbooks, and 3-minute documentaries could never hold the depth of who we are.
In Nigeria alone, we have over 250 ethnic groups. Igala, Jukun, Igbo, Yoruba, Hausa, Tiv, Ibibio, Kanuri, Ijaw, Idoma… and the list goes on. Each tribe has kings, languages, proverbs, festivals, wars, migrations, art, and wisdom that shaped not just Nigeria, but the world.
Yet how many of us grew up knowing what _Àtá_ means in Igala? Or why the _Aku Uka_ is called the spiritual father of the Jukun people? Or the meaning behind _Iga-Ala_ and how it became Igala?
We created VendTop Media because these details matter. Because our children deserve to know their roots without digging through 10 books. Because the world deserves to hear Africa in our own words.
We are here to tell the facts. Not rumors. Not half-truths. Facts that are researched, sourced, and told with respect.
What We Covers
We go deep into pre-colonial kingdoms, migrations, wars, trade routes, and the people who built them. From the Kwararafa Confederacy of the Jukun to the Igala Kingdom at the confluence of the Niger and Benue. From Nri kingdom to Igodomigodo dynasty. From the Benin Empire to the Kanem-Bornu Empire. From oral traditions to written records.
We don’t just list dates. We explain the "why", Why did people move? Why did kingdoms rise and fall? Why do certain names, titles, and customs exist today?
Nigeria is a country of nations. VendTop Media documents the languages, naming systems, kinship terms, and social structures of different tribes.
What does "jema" mean in Jukun? What’s the difference between ata and jema? What does Àbó Igáláà mean? What do you think of Eze and Igwé? We break it down in plain English so you can understand and share it.
We also spotlight heroes, scholars, artists, and everyday people whose stories are often left out of mainstream history books.
Culture is how we live. It’s food, marriage rites, naming ceremonies, festivals like Puje, masquerades, oral poetry, proverbs, and governance systems.
We explore how culture changes but also how it holds us together. We interview elders, custodians of tradition, and young people keeping culture alive in new ways.
African art didn’t start with museums in Europe. It started in palaces, shrines, compounds, and market squares.
We cover traditional sculpture, textiles, beadwork, music, dance, literature, film, and modern African creatives who are redefining the arts today. We believe art is history you can see and feel. So we treat it that way.
How We Work
Everything on VendTop Media is fact-checked. We use oral interviews, academic texts, dictionaries like An Ígálá-English Lexicon, journals, museum archives, and community knowledge. If we don’t know something, we say so, and then we go find it.
We don’t write about communities from a distance. We listen to them. We work with historians, language experts, chiefs, artists, and young people in Kogi, Taraba, Enugu, Lagos, and beyond.
Because history belongs to the people who lived it.
Academic papers are important. But most people don’t talk like that. We write like humans. Short sentences. Real examples. Stories you can actually read and remember. Whether you’re 16 or 60, in Abuja or abroad, you should understand what we’re saying.
Our Mission
Many African languages are endangered. Many traditions are fading. We document them before they disappear. Making African history and culture accessible to students, teachers, parents, and curious minds everywhere could help in preserving from fading away.
We Challenge misinformation and one-sided narratives about Africa that has become a norm in today's world. Show the beauty, complexity, and genius of African civilizations past and present.

Vend means to share, to offer, to bring forward.
Top means the best, the source, the peak.
VendTop = We bring forward the best and most factual stories from the top of our heritage.
And "Media" because stories today live in words, audio, video, and images. We use all of it.
